About the ART and the Artist
The stand alone print ‘Gold Flake’, Condition: Excellent. Peter Blake (illustrator). 1st Edition.
The simplicity of these pieces add to their wall presence and looks fantastic framed.
In 1962, POP Artists Peter Blake, Pauline Boty, Derek Boshier and Peter Phillips, featured in Ken Russells BBC cult documentary Pop Goes The Easel. As with many of his contemporaries Peter Blake was stimulated by the everyday world of advertising, packaging, pop music and magazines.
Gold Leaf is one of Peter Blakes ‘Found Art’ cigarette packets, or Fag Packets as they have affectionately become known.
Fag Packets (Capstan, Star, Ardath, and Gold Flake), Gold Flake is one, from the complete set of Four Screenprints in colours 2006. On wove paper and signed ‘Peter Blake’ and Numbered.
This series demonstrates Blakes belief that beauty can be found anywhere, even in objects that most would believe to be rubbish.
The fag packet series highlights iconic 20th century design and branding, a key component of the POP Art movement.
In 1959, inspired by reproductions by Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns, Blake began to paint collage-like pictures of pop musicians and film stars and to produce assemblages made of recycled material, postcards and other items.
