Sean Connery: Two early career handwritten letters, one detailing his change of name, 1953-1954, Comprising: a handwritten letter in black ink from Thomas Connery addressed to Mr Lamberty, his dentist, concerning the arrangement of a dental appointment, the return address given as 'Thomas Connery c/o South Pacific, Opera House, Manchester', indicating his continued use of his birth name prior to adopting his professional stage name, Sean; the letter mentioning 'I'll be playing Newcastle week ending 3rd July', signed 'Thomas Connery'; a further handwritten letter in green ink bearing the same return address, this time signed 'Sean Connery', in which he notes his change of name, writing 'But I have changed my occupation again, for the stage'; together with his dental records from 158 Albert Street, Dundee, dating from 1952-1956, all recorded under the name Thomas (Sean) Connery, including treatment notes and cancelled appointments, (3) Footnotes: An interesting group of correspondence documenting Sean Connery prior to his rise to international fame. The letters offer a rare and engaging insight into the actor's early, day-to-day life, revealing elements of his personality and character distinct from his later screen persona as James Bond. Both letters have the same return address and suggest a date of circa 1953-1954, coinciding with a stage production of South Pacific, which toured to Manchester Opera House. Connery initially secured a minor role as a chorus member among the Seabees. By the time the production reached Edinburgh, his role had developed into that of the Marine Corporal. Provenance: The Late Mr Lamberty (Sean Connery's dentist), thence by descent.
