Artist bio:Joan Miró was a Catalan Spanish painter, sculptor, and ceramicist associated with Surrealism and later abstract art, known for his playful biomorphic forms and vivid symbolic language. He had major retrospectives at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York (his first U.S. retrospective in 1941), the Grand Palais in Paris, and the Tate Gallery in London, and he received international recognition including a major prize for graphic work at the 1954 Venice Biennale. His work is held in major collections including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Centre Pompidou, and the Museu Reina Sofía, and he remains a key influence on postwar abstract and modern art.
