Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller Signed Program from the Academy of Arts and Letters and National Institute of Arts and Letters Ceremony. Vintage original signed program for the ceremonial held on May 21, 1958 honoring the Academy of Arts and Letters and National Institute of Arts and Letters, containing (12) signatures on the front cover including both Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller. Miller received a gold medal from the National Institute of Arts and Letters at this ceremony in 1958, which he attended with his wife, Marilyn Monroe. Alongside Miller and Monroe's prominent signatures on the cover are signatures by Chaim Gross, Raphael Soyer, Jack Levine, Leon Kroll, Leonard Bocour, Edwin Dickinson, Lewis Mumford, Abraham Rattner, and Robert M. Coates. Also included is (1) separate 8-page pamphlet plus an insert for "an exhibition of manuscripts and books by newly elected members" of the academies, of which Miller was counted, and (1) vintage original 7" x 9" black-and-white photograph from the same day, depicting Miller and Monroe signing programs outside of the event. Stamped verso "United Press Photo" with snipe reading, "New York: Actress Marilyn Monroe (right) signs an autograph for one of her fans as her husband, playwright Arthur Miller looks on. Miller was inducted as a member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters at the joint annual ceremonial of the American Academy and the National Institute of Arts and Letters at the Academy Auditorium (632 West 156th St.) here May 21st. Many celebrated artists and writers were present." Dated "5/21/58" and stamped "May 22 1958". Items exhibit signs of age and wear, including toning and tanning along the spine edge, with crease wear at the base of the spine of the program, toning of the smaller pamphlet, and edgewear and verso toning to the photograph.
