The David Plant Collection 1991 Honda ST50-K 49cc Dax Registration no. J332 LRJ Frame no. AB23-2004416 Engine no. AB22E-1017169 With the launch of the CZ100 in 1960, Honda created the class of machine known as 'monkey bikes', so called because of their diminutive stature. The power unit was the C100 step-thru's reliable four-stroke single, and an ultra-short wheelbase, small wheels and a vestigial fuel tank were all features of a machine which, in the case of the folding handlebar version, could be fitted into the boot of car. A larger version, the ST50/ST70 Dax, with a slightly bigger and more practical frame, was introduced in 1969. This Honda Dax is offered with an invoice dated 1991 for its first service, which was carried out at 354 miles (the current odometer reading is 1,104 miles). Also on file is the Honda card showing the registration date as a 1st August 1991; the machine is identified as a Honda ST50-K and was supplied by Fosters of Manchester. According to paperwork on file, it is one of a pair of machines supplied together as a 'his 'n hers' set for the original owners to use while camping. The Honda has been ridden by the vendor and was last taxed to 31st July 1993. The file also contains the service booklet, owner's manual and current V5C document. The engine turns over. Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/or restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed.
