A pair of George III silver toast racks Henry Green, London 1796 With a nine-bar wire-worked double arched frame, with two circular receivers at either end, on a shaped base with tapering bracket feet, the central carrying handle, with panel engraved with motto 'GANG FORWARD' and crest a Moor's head couped proper of STIRLING family of Dunblane, length 25cm, weight 21.5oz. (2) Footnotes: This is the crest and motto associated with the STIRLING family of Dunblane, Perthshire. The family appear to be related to the STIRLING family of Kippendavie. The paternal holder of the arms at the time of assay (1796) is Revd. Robert STIRLING (1765-1817) of Dunblane, who in 1796 married Mary GRAHAM (1771-1846). This item as result may be a marriage piece.
