PERSIAN SIPAR SHIELD

Description

Of classic form with pinned rim and four bosses on face, with koftgari goldwork and incised designs of florals, rabbits, calligraphy, and scenes of two wise men. Reverse of bosses with eyes. CONDITION: Very good with some scattered darkness throughout, largely a pleasing grey grey. Koftgari lifting in several areas. One section of rim replaced, but appears period. One boss loose. Approximately 18" in diameter. A pleasing example of the talismanic Persian shield.
