Wow, what an exceptional Sunstone, most likely mined in Oregon, USA. Red Sunstone is nearly always mined in Oregon, so as you can imagine, the value is quite high. This stone has really interesting color, mostly rich red with a streak of green, which we've tried to capture photographically. The green is pretty minor and doesn't detract from the main red, and it gives the stone some interesting character, as you can see the green tone from certain angles. We have some appraised Sunstones in a few of our listings and the appraisals value the stones at $450 per carat from an appraisal dating back to 2007. The stones are definitely worth much more in today's market. Natural and untreated. Most gems sold online aren't jewelry grade.
