Footnotes: Mortlach 1957 Gordon & MacPhail Private Collection is an extraordinary example of long-aged Speyside whisky and represents one of the most revered releases within the celebrated Gordon & MacPhail Private Collection series. Distilled on 26th January 1957 and matured for an exceptional 50 years before bottling in May 2007, this whisky captures a remarkable moment in Scotch whisky history that is increasingly impossible to replicate today. Drawn from first-fill sherry butts #585 and #586 and bottled at 43.5% ABV, only 514 bottles were produced, making this an exceptionally limited and highly collectible release. Matured during an era often regarded as the golden age of Scotch whisky production, the spirit showcases the depth, richness, and complexity for which 1950s sherried whiskies are so highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts worldwide. Presented in a deep dark amber hue, the whisky offers a beautifully layered profile of stewed fruits, polished leather, antique wood, rich sherry influence, warming spice, and subtle brown sugar sweetness, culminating in a long and elegant finish. The spirit also reflects the unmistakable character of Mortlach - affectionately known as 'The Beast of Dufftown' - a distillery famed for its complex 2.81-times distillation process which creates a rich, muscular, and deeply textured spirit. Bottles of this calibre and age are becoming increasingly scarce within the market, particularly from the 1950s and from such highly regarded sherry maturation. As one of the standout early releases within Gordon & MacPhail's iconic Private Collection series, this bottling remains a landmark whisky for serious collectors and connoisseurs alike.
