A fine and rare mid-18th century ebonised single pad top striking table clock Alexander Cummings, London The case surmounted by a brass carrying handle over a pad top with moulded cornice to a simple front, the sides with glazed observation windows, terminating in a moulded base and standing on four brass ogee feet. The 6 inch brass dial with silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with matted centre and calendar aperture, framed by four cast brass spandrels with subsidiary dials for strike/silent and pendulum rise and fall within engraved floral decoration, signed on a silvered plaque Alex Cummings, London with blued steel hands. The fine five pillar movement with double gut fusee and verge escapement with short pendulum secured by a brass pendulum lock, the back plate finely engraved with floral decoration, striking the hours on a bell mounted above, currently ticking and striking, sold with one case key and three winding keys including the original brass key. 38cms (15ins) high.
