The initial ceremony, planned for 20 June 1902, had to be postponed until 9 August after the King was forced to undergo emergency abdominal surgery. Also of note is a programme from a showing of cinematograph pictures at Sandringham with George V in 1911, including Captain Scott's expedition to the South Pole. His predecessor Edward VII had been a keen early enthusiast of the cinematograph, had introduced private screenings at Sandringham and was the first monarch to be extensively filmed.
