Nigeria, Nok culture, possibly ca. 500 BCE - 200 CE. A large terracotta standing figure modeled in reddish-brown earthenware, shown frontally with an elongated head, high coiffure or cap-like headdress, pierced eyes, small projecting nose, and simplified mouth. The torso is modeled with bent arms held close to the body, one hand raised near the chest and the other positioned lower at the abdomen. Incised and raised details define the coiffure, neck ornaments, arms, and garment-like elements across the body.
The figure displays several features associated with Nok terracotta sculpture, including stylized facial abstraction, pierced pupils, elaborate head treatment, textured clay surface, and a compact, columnar body form. Mounted on a modern black display base.
