Description:TOSHIKATA was a Japanese-style painter and illustrator, first learned woodblock printing from YOSHITOSHI, then studied Japanese-style painting with Watanabe Shotei ('Seitei', 1851-1918). The drawings shown here seem to be from the period when he was associated with Yoshitoshi and his school (c. 1880s until the early '90s), and show the Western influence of lifestyle and fashion on the Japanese society.
