Lectionary Etchmiadzine, 1839. Reissue after the copy printed in Constantinople in the year 1799.In-folio (36 x 25 cm). 811 pages. Includes an additional title page with woodcut and three full-page engravings.The text is framed by frontispieces, decorative borders and ornamented chapter ends.The first engraving forms the second frontispiece, surrounded on the right and left by three vertical images depicting: Saint Thaddée, Saint Isaac le Parthe and SaintGuy, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Mesrop and Saint HovhannèsMandakouni.At the top is a scene of Deesis (Christ between the Virgin and Saint John the Baptist), and at the bottom of the page, Saint Gregory the Illuminator and King Tiridate frame the cathedral of Etchmiadzine.Dark marginal soiling and staining over most of the volume, numerous leaves reinforced in the white margins, rough marginal repairs to the last 2 leaves affecting part of the text.Very worn leather binding.Old and New Testament readings for use in church evenings throughout the year.Provenance: Swann Auction Galleries, New York City, Sale 2243, April 11, 2011, lot 15.
