Description
This striking 19th-century steel engraving depicts General George Armstrong Custer in his Civil War-era uniform, featuring the iconic long locks and mustache that defined his public persona. A quintessential piece of Americana, the work is noted as being "From a Photograph by Brady," referencing the famed Mathew Brady studios, and was executed by the skilled engraver J. Rogers. It is presented in a period-appropriate oval walnut frame with a classic gold-toned inner liner and its original wood backing. The portrait includes a facsimile signature of "G.A. Custer" at the bottom. Objectively, the frame is in good condition with minor surface abrasions and small chips consistent with age, while the engraving shows light, even toning and a few small foxing spots primarily near the margins. H 13.25", W 11.25", D 1.75". Please see photos for condition.
