Description
This Jicarilla Apache basket tray dates from the 1920s. It is made of natural fibers using a coil weave technique. The basket features concentric dark circles emanating from the center with some geometric designs, faintly visible in the background. The splints are possibly dyed with aniline dyes and red and darker shades. Jicarilla Apache baskets were traditionally used for winnowing grain or storing food. They are highly regarded as a celebrated art form within the Apache. Small damage to rim. Dimensions: 17.5” diameter x 4.25” tall. Base diameter approximately 4”. String through back for hanging. Please see photos.
