Description
This striking Plains-style leather belt assembly features a collection of traditional trade-inspired elements, including a main belt adorned with large, stamped brass conchos and a secondary hanging "drop" strap featuring rectangular brass plates with floral motifs. The set includes a hand-stitched buckskin pouch with intricate seed beadwork in a geometric pattern of blue, white, and red, finished with a generous fringe. Accompanying the belt is a small circular glass mirror and a forged iron strike-a-light (fire starter) tool. While the copper rivets and specific leather wear suggest a mid-to-late 20th-century creation for powwow or decorative use rather than a 19th-century museum piece, the craftsmanship captures a high level of traditional detail. The leather shows significant "crazing" and surface cracking consistent with aging and use, and there is minor oxidation on the brass components. The beadwork remains largely intact with vibrant colors. H 33", W 2.5", D 2". Please see photos.
