STRAVINSKY IGOR: (1882-1971) Russian Composer. T.L.S., Igor Stravinsky, one page, 4to, n.p., 27th April 1964, to Paul Kohner Inc. in Los Angeles, Sunset Boulevard. Stravinsky grants his correspondents and agents the conditions agreed regarding his composition works on Dino de Laurentis film The Bible, stating in part `This will confirm our understanding with reference to the matters herein aontained. It is hereby agreed as follows: 1) I hereby represent that you acted as my exclusive agent in procuring emplyment for me with Dino de Laurentis Cinematografica, SPA, in the motion picture (hereinbelow calles "motion picture"), entitled "The Bible". - 2) In consideration of your services as set forth above, I agree to pay to you a sum equal to ten per cent (10%) of all salary received by me for my services in said motion picture, the same to be paid to you as and when said salary and other compensation is paid to me...´ Also signed at the base by Paul Kohner Inc. representative, and countersigned with paraph to the right border by Stravinsky. The Bible...In the Beginning (1966) was a religious epic film produced by Dino de Laurentis, released by 20th Century Fox and directed by John Huston. Among the many actors and actresses were Richard Harris, George C. Scott, Ava Gardner, Peter O´Toole and many more.
Huston initially wanted to score the film with existing music by Igor Stravinsky, but was unable to secure a licensing deal. Stravinsky likewise declined to an offer write an original score.The agreement between De Laurentis & Huston with Stravinsky did not go ahead and the final musical score was by the Japanese composer Toshiro Mayuzumi whose score score was nominated for an Academy Award.
