John Carr Doughty was a prominent art collector and patron who formed one of the world's most significant private collections of Diaghilev's Ballet Russes designs. Doughty became to custodian and owner of many of Bakst's original stage and costume deigns. In 1944 Doughty acquired a large collection of original set an costume work from Cyril Beaumont who was a prominent dance historian and publisher. This prominent collection included numerous masterpieces designed by Léon Bakst for Ballet Russes. Doughty toured this collection extensively across Europe and the UK. Doughtys collection preserved a lot of Baskt's designs including some of his contributions to productions such as the The Sleeping Princess by Pyotr IIyich Tchaikovsky and other london ballet seasons in London, survived and were appreciated by the public.
