A silver-gilt waistbelt clasp of the 47th Sikhs mounted as an ink blotter India and London, the blotter dated 1902 the silver buckle of typical form with regimental number, 'XLVII', to centre within quoit bearing the unit name, 'Sikhs', topped by crown and encircled by wreath, all on gilt ground, gilt loops with foliate motifs to either side, the wood rocker mounted with silver plate with hallmarks for London, 1902 8 x 12 cm; 392 g. Footnotes: Raised in 1901 in Sialkot (now in Pakistan), the 47th Sikh Infantry was comprised largely of Jat Sikhs. The regiment served during World War I both on the Western Front and in the Levant, fighting with the 8th Indian Infantry Brigade and at the Battle of Megiddo in 1918. In 1922, the 47th Sikhs became the 5th Battalion, 11th Sikh Regiment, before being allocated to India after Partition.
