Description
Good example over 1/2" height of broad form with sides made of broad elegant recurved foliate members. The field with a trefoil matching. The trefoil (triple leaf) motif was popular with Vikings and believed to represent fertility with sprouting buds. Made by the open face mold technique and the decoration hand-cut or chased. For Vikings, the heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the warrior. It is said that Hrungnir, with whom Thor dueled (assisted by a sorceress), had a heart of stone. Professionally refurbished with pure silver overlay restored on a Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. Gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
