Description
For sale is a beautiful 8-inch antique blue and white spouted jar, dating to the 19th century. This piece features a striking folk-art aesthetic characteristic of Korean Joseon Dynasty "Min-hwa" ceramics. The body is decorated with gestural, hand-painted scrolling motifs in a deep underglaze cobalt blue over a warm creamy-gray glaze.
This vessel was traditionally used for storing and pouring liquids, evidenced by the functional tapered spout and four loop handles (lugs) at the shoulder. Authentic markers of manual production are visible throughout, including clear chatter marks on the recessed base and a brownish-orange oxidized foot rim. The interior shows original kiln grit and throwing ridges.
Condition: Excellent antique condition with age-appropriate wear. No major cracks or repairs. Please see photos for glaze pinholing and kiln debris common in period wood-fired pottery.
