Description
Meissen Marcolini-Period Reticulated Porcelain Plate, circa (1774–1814)
A finely modeled Meissen porcelain reticulated plate from the Marcolini period (1774–1814), distinguished by its crisply pierced latticework rim ("Durchbruch"), delicate gilt floral reserves, and woven basketweave center. This form was a specialty of the Meissen manufactory in the late 18th century, produced for dessert services and table centerpiece arrangements at the height of the European neoclassical period.
The rim is cut with geometric precision characteristic of the Marcolini era, with four molded rocaille and floral medallions picked out in finely stippled gilt. The interior features a raised basketweave panel"”an iconic Meissen motif introduced in the mid-18th century and continued in the early neoclassical years under Count Camillo Marcolini's directorship. The gilding is original and beautifully preserved, showing the restrained and elegant hand associated with Marcolini's workshops.
Underglaze blue crossed-swords mark to the underside with the Marcolini star, confirming production between circa 1780 and 1810.
