Description
Pair Zinc Alloy Swan Garden Sculptures Good Scale & Weathered Surface
A striking pair of American zinc alloy swan garden sculptures, early–mid 20th century, beautifully modeled with graceful necks, layered plumage, and strong sculptural presence. Cast in zinc alloy"”an outdoor metal widely used between 1900 and 1950 for architectural ornaments and commercial statuary"”these swans retain a wonderful weathered surface, with traces of original outdoor patina that give them warmth and authenticity.
The larger swan measures 20" high × 13" wide × 12" deep, and the smaller 16" high × 16" wide × 11" deep, making them substantial decorative pieces either indoors or outside. Their size, paired stance, and expressive forms allow them to work as garden focal points, flanking entryways, pool areas, fountains, or conservatory interiors.
Zinc sculpture holds a unique place in American decorative history: it was lighter than iron, sturdier than plaster, and allowed foundries to cast highly detailed forms at an affordable cost. Many of these outdoor sculptures were produced in regional Midwestern and Northeastern workshops, but very few survive as pairs today.
This set has a refined, sculptural silhouette and a rare sense of movement"”prized by decorators for both traditional and modern spaces.
Strong, decorative, and full of personality"”an impressive pair. Ready to place.
