Description
A fine late 19th century cast-iron bench settee by James W. Carr of Richmond, Virginia, cast in four sections in the desirable fern pattern. The double-back form features rolled arms above a scroll-pierced seat, raised on saber-like legs with the fern design repeated on the ends. One section is embossed "JAMES W. CARR, RICHMOND, VA" to the front edge of the seat. The James W. Carr foundry is noted for producing highly decorative garden furnishings, with this line referenced in a 1907 article in the Richmond Times Dispatch. It measures approximately 31 in. H x 37 1/2 in. W x 18 in. D, with a floor to seat height of 16 in. In very good condition.
