Exceptional piece of historic Southern folk pottery is a highly desirable two-gallon stoneware crock from Laurens, South Carolina, crafted by the noted potter Joe Johnson. The vessel showcases a beautiful classic alkaline glaze that is wonderfully elevated by a striking, rare cobalt blue decorated ring encircling the upper shoulder, and features a prominent stamped "2" indicating its gallon capacity alongside a single hand-applied strap handle. Measuring approximately 12 5/8 in. H x 7 3/8 in. in diameter, Exhibiting some expected minor surface abrasions and character-defining chips to the upper lip. One surface crack.
