Description
A large hardback copy of "Newport News Shipbuilding: The First Century" signed by Shipyard Superintendent in good condition overall. This book is large and features several color pictures throughout depicting the many successful deliveries put forth by the Newport News Shipbuilding Company during its first 100 years of service. Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) is the largest industrial employer in Virginia and the sole designer, builder, and refueler of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers for the U.S. Navy. Located in Newport News, Virginia, it is a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) and one of only two U.S. shipyards capable of building nuclear submarines. Nuclear Aircraft Carriers: NNS is the only shipyard in the United States equipped to build and refuel Gerald R. Ford-class and Nimitz-class nuclear supercarriers. Nuclear Submarines: The company builds and repairs Virginia-class fast-attack submarines and produces sections for Columbia-class ballistic missile submarines. History: Founded in 1886, the 550-plus acre facility has built over 800 ships, ranging from commercial vessels to heavily armed naval warships.
