Description
A paperback copy of a US Department of the Army 1971 "Night Vision Sight Individual Served Weapon AN/PVS-1"in good to very good condition overall. The AN/PVS-1 was a foundational Generation 1 (Gen 1) passive starlight scope widely deployed during the Vietnam War. Unlike earlier active infrared systems (such as the M3 Sniperscope used in the Korean War) which required a heavy, visible-to-enemy infrared searchlight emitter, the AN/PVS-1 operated entirely passively. It amplified ambient environmental light—such as starlight and moonlight—making the user invisible to opposing forces lacking similar equipment.
