Description
A QINGBAI 'CLASSICAL SCROLL' WASHER 宋代 湖田窑青白釉刻划卷草纹洗 China, Song dynasty (960–1279) D.15.4cm The washer features a flared rim, shallow curved sides, and a flat base. It is covered inside and out with a qingbai glaze of a translucent lake-green hue, suffused with a network of natural fine crackles. The interior bottom is incised and comb-scraped with classical scrolls, while the exterior remains plain with occasional small pinpricks in the smooth glaze. The unglazed rim and base reveal a firm, greyish-white body, with the rim showing a light beige tone. With a collector's label 'CONY ART D14' adhered to the base. Provenance: - A Paris art instructor’s collection, purchased from Dreweatts, Newbuy, 8th November 2023, lot 385 -A private Scottish collection, previously purchased from Cony Art. -
Condition
The exterior remains plain with occasional small pinpricks and scattered iron-brown speckles in the smooth glaze, showing minor wear from use along the edges. The unglazed rim and base reveal a firm, greyish-white body, with the rim showing a light beige tone. A kiln crack is visible on the base.
