Description
While this one was definitely used for calligraphy, this bell-shaped form was also widely produced to serve as a bird feeder inside traditional birdcages.
The foot is well cut and unglazed.
Provenance: From the estate of Dr. Andres Onate, former Dean of East Asian Studies at the University of Arizona. Dr. Onate served in China for the US State Department in the early 1980s and again in the early 1990s. This item was purchased in Beijing circa 1982.

CONDITION
The ink pot has no chips or breaks. It does have numerous kiln flaws such as pits and black spots. There is dried black inside, as well as a few ink marks on the outside.
A charming and versatile piece of late Qing porcelain, carrying both the artistry of traditional Chinese decoration and the quiet evidence of a life well used.
