Description
The Bardin Family was one of the greatest British globe makers of the late eighteenth to early nineteenth centuries. The firm was established by William Bardin (1740-1803) around 1780, when he collaborated with Gabriel Wright in producing 9 to 12 inch diameter globes .These New British globes were subsequently sold by S S Etkins, T M Bardin's son in law following his death in 1819.; The featured globe is characteristic of the terrestrial globes of William and Thomas Marriott.; It is prominently dedicated to Sir Joseph Banks, then President of the Royal Society.; The condition is good in view of the 162 years of age of the piece , all of land mass and print are redeable , there are stains and discoloration , some stable crack , some touch up in the antartic sea , some in the Pacific .; The US is still in its infancy , Texas is a republic included in Mexico , Africa is empty as is Australia since it was unexplored .; The brown coloring seems to be original tone of the map , there are some watercolor marking of the border and sea line .; D.18 in x H 3ft. 7 1/4 in.;
