Description
This captivating late 20th-century Balinese painting on textile, signed by W. Marse of Ubud Bali, depicts a vibrant jungle scene teeming with mythical figures and intricate details.
This painting is from the estate of the Findlay’s Keepers, and was purchased as a wonderful art piece from the Oregon coast. The back of the frame has a label that indicates its purchase in a Lincoln City Gallery. The glass does an impressive job of minimizing reflections and making the painting look as if it were not behind glass. The frame is a subtle champagne gold metal frame, with a simple brown velvet mat, and a brown wood fillet. This painting was in a private collection and was well-taken care of. The piece is in very good condition with no visible damage to the painting. The frame and mat are also in very good condition with minor signs of wear consistent with age and display. The paper on the reverse shows slight water damage to the bottom right corner, as seen in the photographs. The hanging wire is in very good condition, and there is an informational placard from the original purchase attached to the back of the frame, but it is not easily readable. The painting itself is not affected by the minor water damage to the backing paper. One important point is the bright colors. These typically fade and yellow over time as the pigment is not as stable as what we know today. Here the colors are still very bright.
