Description
LEGA Statuette
Anthropomorphic statuettes used as part of the cult of the Bwami are generically referred to as Iginga.
Collective, sacred properties, they are kept secret, usually in closed wicker baskets. Their use is reserved, with exceptions, for passages to the upper (Yananio) and supreme (Kindi) levels.
The statue is inseparable from the associated aphorism.
The Bwami is a hierarchical association that structures the Lega company and ensures its stability. Each level crossing gives rise to initiation rites where one speaks, sings, mimes, exposes, transmits meaningful aphorisms.""
"The objective is to formulate and interpret in multiple symbolic ways the principles, moral and philosophical values of the Bwami, to grant initiates the ritual objects corresponding to their rank, and to transmit prestige, privilege and knowledge.""
