Description
Its futuristic good looks made it very at home on the U.S.S Enterprise during the late 1960s in the Star Trek Original series, and it went on to be used in many of the later Star Trek films. They also appear in 1967’s Casino Royale.
Maurice Burke was a mid-century industrial designer who was best known for his work for Arkana. The Burke 115 Chair and 116 Armchair are arguably the most iconic pieces of furniture of any Star Trek series. Their design is sometimes misattributed to Eero Saarinen, whose tulip chairs served as Burke’s inspiration. Both the 115 and 116 chairs were modified by Star Trek set designers, who added the black headrest and beveled back details. While featured in almost every episode of The Original Series, the chair is only visible in a few episodes of The Next Generation, Enterprise, and Discovery. More recently, it appears prominently throughout Strange New Worlds’ Enterprise.
