Born in Mexico City in 1902 to a Spanish father and an American mother, Canedo's artistic journey began with studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts in Paris, mentored by the renowned sculptor Jean Magrou. Further honing his skills in Rome in 1923, Canedo's talent gained international recognition. His career took a diplomatic turn when, after a transformative trip to Mexico in 1927, he became an attaché to the Mexican Embassy in Rome. Exhibiting extensively in Europe and the United States, Canedo's meticulous pencil drawings inaugurated Walter P. Chrysler Jr.'s Cheshire Gallery in 1932, marking the beginning of a prolific period in New York and beyond.
