Description
25 x 29. This mixed media work on toned wove paper is executed in charcoal and pastel. The composition depicts a young woman in historicized rural dress consoling an elderly, bearded man who leans against her while holding a wooden staff. The drawing reflects a late 19th-century academic style, characterized by soft modeling of the faces and textures. The work is signed lower right Petilfells and inscribed Roma. It is housed in a deep-profile wooden frame with a linen-wrapped mat and a gold-colored fillet. The verso includes a gallery label from Frames etc., Marlton, New Jersey, and a handwritten provenance note on graph paper reading, bought in L. Angeles c dec 1975.
