Description
This OUTSTANDING cotton authentic Holmes County, Ohio Amish "basket of chips" quilt is all treadle machine pieced and hand quilted, and came out of the esteemed Darwin Bearley Amish quilt collection. The quilt is featured on p. 46 of Bearley's coffee-table-sized book entitled: "Antique Ohio Amish Quilts." A wrapped, unopened hardcover copy of the book is included with the quilt. The quilt measures 65" X 81" and is in excellent, sturdy condition, with the occasional age spot and no wear. The colors are a bit off in the book picture. The colors are deeper, and the background is navy blue. There is hand quilting around the piecework and in grid, straight line floral, and braided/cable designs in the border, all 8-9 stitches to the inch. The back is a denimy-midnight blue fabric, the hand stitched, wide binding is the same solid maroon fabric used in the interior, and the batting is thin.
The pics just don't do justice to this 110+ year old AMISH COLLECTOR'S QUILT -- it's much more impressive in real life!
