  • Description:This is an antique Japanese tsuba made by the respected maker Masatsune of the Bush? school, a fitting for a Nihonto sword. Crafted from iron during the late Edo period in Musashi Province, this piece features the elegant “Hanaikada” motif, which translates to Floating Cherry Blossoms. The design is executed in a detailed openwork (sukashi) style with raised carving, depicting cherry blossoms drifting on flowing water between wooden lattice elements. This poetic theme was highly valued by the samurai and reflects a refined taste. Subtle gold highlights remain on the petals, adding contrast and depth to the dark iron surface. This well balanced and rhythmical piece is a fine example of the Bush? tradition. The tsuba comes with a Paulownia box for storage.
