Literature
In 2015 a cache of approximately 20,000 War-era sixpences were discovered during a swimming pool excavation in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney. The coins were found in a wooden crate and were rolled in brown paper wrappers stamped the 'Contact Novelty Co.' indicating they were used for vending machine operations. Consequently most of the coins had some circulation but about 1,000 coins survived in Mint State condition. Except for a handful of 1940 and 1941 sixpences the remainder of the coins were all dated 1942 (M), 1942 'D', 1942 'S', 1943 'D' & 1943 'S'.
