Title: 1940s Itailan Murano Barovier Style Vanity Tray With Etched Mirror and Twisted Glass Rope Description: Midcentury mirror-engraved Murano glass serving tray. This wonderful piece was produced in Italy during 1940s. The mirror has romantic Venetian characters and a picturesque countryside landscape. Iconic vanity tray with handles; the rectangular top is a mirror with rounded corners and has been skilfully ground with stone wheels from underneath depicting a courtship scene showing a courtly couple dressed in all their finery in a landscape or formal garden with architectural elements creating a complete and lively image; the upper edge of the mirror is decorated with a glass cord with a green glass accent twisted on itself; the handles are of excellent gilded brass casting, the grips, again with a twisted cord motif, have gold straws inside them; under the bottom, there is a light wood top. The artisans were inspired by models created by Barovier & Toso, a Murano glass company in Venice whose activity began in the mid-twelfth century and is one of the oldest companies in the world that still produces pieces of extraordinary workmanship and beauty and it is for this reason that it has always been an example and a model of reference for all Murano production.
