Description
Cipolla, Bartholomei Commentaria in tit. ff. de aedilitio edicto, nunc primum in lucem aedita [...]. Lyon, heirs of J. Giunta, 1550 Original calf , spine with raised bands, restored lacks ties, some wear size: 5 by 7 1/4" Text in Latin Bartolomeo Cipolla ( Verona , circa 1420 – Padua , 10 or 11 May 1475 ) was an Italian jurist and diplomat , among the greatest and one of the most widely republished, Count Palatine and ambassador of the Most Serene Republic of Venice in the 15th century . He came from a wellestablished Veronese family . A protagonist of legal humanism, holder of the chair of civil law at the very famous Studium Patavino , a legal theorist, he was the author of a treatise on the interpretation of the law ( De interpretatione legis extensiva ). He was also a jurist attentive to legal practice, aware of the differences existing between abstract principles and everyday practice, author of the famous Cautelae , constituting an important collection of practices useful to lawyers , judges and notaries in criminal and civil matters. The Tractatus on urban and rustic land easements , published in 147374 in Rome and Perugia and republished continuously throughout the 19th century, is another example of sensitivity to the practical applications of the law. Born in Scaliger and loyal to his adopted city, Padua, he played an important role in drafting the city statutes of 1450. He was the legate of the Municipality of Verona on several occasions before the Venetian magistrates. Awarded the titles of Knight and Count Palatine in 1470 , he was ambassador of the Most Serene Republic of Venice to the Diet of Regensburg in 1471 . Evidence that Cipolla ranks as one of the greatest jurists of his time and beyond, beyond the weight and the historical and scientific value of his works, is certainly the fact that they were not only repeatedly published during the author's lifetime, an unusual fact in the era of transition from copyist to printing , but that the same works continued to be republished for centuries, up until the nineteenth century (the Tractatus in particular had notable diffusion, due to their practical implications )
