Additional details: This is an original mid-19th century French atlas map titled “Dépt. de Seine et Oise”, published as part of the celebrated Atlas National Illustré des 86 Départements et des Possessions de la France. The atlas was issued by French publisher A. Combette in Paris and is generally dated to around 1854–1858.
The map was engraved by Vuillemin, one of the important French cartographers of the period, and combines detailed geographic information with elaborate decorative vignettes illustrating the history, agriculture, industry, and culture of the Seine-et-Oise region surrounding Paris. The ornate borders, allegorical figures, and finely engraved scenes are characteristic of the richly embellished French atlas tradition of the Second Empire period.
This example retains its original hand coloring and strong engraved detail, making it both a historical document and an impressive decorative piece. The irregular outer edges and age toning are consistent with authentic 19th-century atlas sheets.
