Description
The heavy metal has been silver plated and etched with a design of brownies playing with a hoop, running from a bear, and a boat full of brownies being pulled by more brownies. There is a blank florid cartouche for a name to be engraved. The well is undecorated and would have been a place to put a ceramic bowl. The dish rests flat on a surface.
An etched mark on the base reads FORBES SILVER Co. QUADRUPLE around a circle with an eagle head. Above this mark are the words ROYAL BABY PLATE PAT. FEB. 7TH 1906. Forbes was a secondary trademark of the Meriden Britannia Company.
MEASUREMENTS
8 ½ in (21.6 cm) diameter x ¾ in (1.9 cm) deep. Weighs 12.8 oz.
CONDITION
There are no cracks, breaks, or repairs. There is a dent with two narrow marks along the inner rim and a smaller one along the outer rim. There are two small dents in the central well. There is slight wear to the inner well. There are a few small silver losses; however, the dish still has most of its silver and has polished up nicely.
A great Cox Brownie dish to add to your collection. It's a fun piece and will make you laugh.
