Description
This Degenhart Vaseline Glass Sweetheart Toothpick Holder is in excellent condition. It measures 2 5/8" x 2 1/8" x 1 5/8" . True Vaseline Glass is harder to find than Depression Uranium Glass.
A little history: Vaseline glass is glassware that is made with uranium content to give a pale-yellow green color similar to that of petroleum jelly. It glows bright green under UV light. Most Vaseline glass was produced during the Victorian era. Uranium glass, an older and more general term, is sometimes used as a synonym for Vaseline glass, but this can lead to confusion because some types of glass colored with uranium (e.g., custard glass and Burmese glass) are opaque whereas Vaseline glass is transparent. Vaseline glass is a recent term that probably dates from the 1950s. Canary glass is an even older name that was first used in the 1840s to describe what is now referred to as Vaseline glass. This is a wonderful example of classic glass artistry with a captivating glow.
