Description
Oxidized Pewter Souvenir of Germany with Hesse Coat of Arms is in excellent condition. Oxidized pewter is dark and old looking and is produced this way. This wall plaque was produced around 1949 when the coat of arms of Hesse was introduced. It is based on the historical coat of arms of the Ludovingian landgraves of Hesse and Thuringia. It is stamped on the back zinn gegossen 95. Since the time when lead was banned because of its harmfulness, most pewter products in Europe have been stamped, depending on their origin: PELTRO 95, ZINN 95, PEWTER 95 or eTAIN 95, indicating that the alloy used contained 95% tin. It measures 9" in diameter. It will make a great display item. If you desire to remove the oxidized patina you can polish is off. I recommend looking at how to polish pewter before you do.
