No. 14 ? Sydney July ? 18'12' W. Jenkins. I Promise to Pay the Bearer the sum of Two Shillings and Six.Pence , on demand, in copper coin 2s. 6d. 'Wm Jenkins'. William Jenkins came to Australia as a convicted sheep duffer (thief). On his release he started a number of successful businesses in partnership with his brother which included farming, boat building and property development. Jenkins issued 'Shilling', 'One Shilling & Sixpence" and 'Two Shillings & Sixpence' Promissory Notes all dated 1812. Tragically his business career was cut short in 1814 when he was shot dead during a robbery at the Parramatta Toll Gate.
