Eden served three terms as Foreign Secretary and for fifteen years was the Deputy of Conservative Leader Winston Churchill. He was elected Prime Minister in 1955 but his poor handling of the 'Suez Crisis' in 1956, which precipitated the loss of British influence in the Middle East, saw him retire from office early with a reputation as one of the least successful British Prime Ministers.
