George Barrington was a notorious criminal whose exploits had already been written up in the London press before he was transported to New South Wales in 1791. He is an unlikely author of this work, which was probably ghosted by an anonymous hand seeking to exploit his notoriety. However, it is extremely important work being one of the earliest accounts of life in the fledgling colony.
