Description
(1833 - 1916) Confederate officer, 'The Grey Ghost' led his Partisan Rangers on numerous troublesome cavalry raids against Union forces and supply trains. Excessively rare and most desirable war-date S.P., 2.5 x 4 in. sepia, a chest-up view of Mosby in uniform, boldly signed ‘Jno. S. Mosby’ in black ink across the bottom of the print. The verso bears the backstamp of E. J. Rees & Co. of Richmond, and shows two pencil identifying inscriptions. The contrast of the image is slightly light otherwise in fine condition overall. Sold with a period printed facsimile copy of Mosby’s farewell address to his troops, chipped at the edges and moderately toned. Mosby war-date autograph material in incredibly rare!
