(1809-1881) Son of the famed corps of discovery leader William Clark and named after his father's associate Meriwether Lewis. Confederate colonel and commander of artillery who served under Braxton Bragg and Robert E. Lee. War-date partly-printed D.S. ‘M. Lewis Clark’, 1p. 4to., [Atlanta, ca. Aug. 28, 1863], a voucher for payments to a Thomas W. Bartlett for the showing of horses and mules under Clark’s command. He signs below in black ink, adding his rank ‘Col C. S. Artillery’. Shows expected folds, toned overall, otherwise in very good condition.
